Introduction
My name is Prakash Mali, and I am popularly known as the Cyclist Professor. I hail from Udaipur, Rajasthan, and I am a long-distance cyclist, mountaineer, marathoner, and fitness enthusiast. I am 39 years old, and my passion for cycling has been an essential part of my life for the past few years.
I am working full-time as a consultant in a Udaipur-based ITES company, but that did not stop me from pursuing my passion for cycling. My journey has been a roller coaster ride, with some days being harder than others, while some have been liberating. I started cycling in 2017 with a goal of covering around 10-15km per day. However, within a few months, cycling became a passion and part of my life. Since my first day, I have covered 35,000 km on the cycle, with 100+ 100km rides across Rajasthan.
I believe that the benefits of cycling are endless, and it is an excellent way to explore the country lanes. Apart from cycling, I am also a trekker and marathon runner. I have participated in many marathons across India, including the TMM, Tuffman, Mount Abu, Adani, Chambal Challenge, IDBI Delhi, and many more.
As a fitness enthusiast who likes to motivate others to follow a fitness routine, I, along with a few other like-minded enthusiasts, started the "Udaipur Cycling Club" in 2017. The club organizes cycling tours and rallies within the city and several awareness programs on special occasions for the public. As a part of the club, we always strive to implement solutions for a clean, green, and healthy city. Not just that, I am also a co-founder of the "Mewari Runners" club that brings together people from different walks of life who wish to stay fit and healthy.
I have achieved several milestones in my journey, including completing 100 rides of 100km distance, a cycling expedition to Mount Abu, Jawai, Jodhpur, Chittor, Kota, 200km and 300km brevets under Audax India Randonneurs, 24 Hours Cycling Expedition around Fatehsagar in Udaipur, and covered 35K+ cycling distance since 2018. However, my most challenging achievement has been completing the trek to Mount Everest's Base Camp, which sits 17,665 feet above sea level, on Sunday 23 May 2019.
These challenges help me understand my body better and how much I can push it further and challenge my own limits. I prefer making smaller targets that I can achieve periodically and stay motivated. My family has been a huge support in whatever I have achieved by far, especially my daughter, who wants to follow in my footsteps and has already started setting her targets for a healthy lifestyle. Watching her learn and grow every day has been the biggest motivator for me, and I keep looking forward to setting an even better example for her to follow.
